This is so obvious that everyone here probably know it already. But the obvious eluded me for a while until the light went off. So just in case there is someone a little slow at times like I am.

I had noticed that when I received topic reply emails, as requested, I would no longer receive more emails on that topic. I would go in and look at the topic, and then never know when it was updated again. Then once in a while I would get a second topic reply email.

My obvious miss was that when I clicked on the link to see the topic I was not signing in. So the site had no way of tracking that I had looked again and should receive another message that there were more replies. The moral of the story if you want to be notified again log in when browsing. Once again so obvious but I missed it for a while.

While on the topic whoever has done the programming for the site (I get the impression ffrom some post Tim has a lot to do with it), it is an excellent job.

John,
I believe you have to click the link in the notifying email before you'll be sent another. I don't think it will track you thru sign-in, just thru using that email link.

John is correct.
But the programming on phpBB is not foolproof.
Sometimes it's 0s and 1s get crossed and it just makes independent decisions to send out emails....or not.

I know it's frowned upon but you could just always leave yourself signed in....unless others use your computer.

I leave myself signed in when the comp is on and I'm at home.
I think there is an automatic cut off after a time; at least there used to be.

I don't get the technic side but you do get 'overlooked' after a time frame but when you bring the page up again you are still signed in. You don't need to log in again even when you turn the machine back on. Just bring up the forum and you're logged in.
I always seem to get notified if that's what I've selected. Maybe this is why?
I don't log out, just close the page to go elsewhere.

John,
If you have not already discovered it, the computer you use is of the female gender. Why;
a] A computer wants the facts, proper typing, exact words
b] A computer does not wax poetic
c] A computer does not daydream
d] If you do not turn her off, then all she knows is what is in the moment.
e] rather than fight with her, it is much easier to name her and deal with it
f] email is just something that she puts up with, garbage in garbage out
g] I name my computers with female names
I bet you could add to my short list with some humor of your own.
