Hello!
I'm relatively new to the forum, but wanted to introduce myself. Although my career since 1984 has been in IT, I've enjoyed the hobby of silversmithing and lapidary (cabbing) off and on since the early 1970's (and rock, mineral and gem collecting even earlier than that), and have enjoyed a renewed commitment to the crafts since 2014.
Even though I cab stones for use in my jewelry and only last year acquired a great 6" cabbing machine (previous cabs were done on other's machines eons ago, or since 2014 using my flex shaft and diamond bits/polishes), I've also been fascinated with getting into faceting for quite a long time, too.
As of this year I am now seriously budgeting for a mast-type faceting machine, and hope to be able to acquire one before too long. As a matter of fact, it was that interest in learning more about faceting that lead me to this forum.
I've already learned quite a bit from a lot of the members of this forum, just from my short time lurking, but I hope to be able to contribute back in whatever ways I can.
I'm thankful that this forum exists, and I thank you for welcoming me!

Thank you Dioptase, glhays, arglthesheep and Barbra Voltaire for all the very warm welcomes!!
Yes, keeping warm (albeit barely it seems) with all the power outages our state was having this week was a chore! We are blessed though in having a fireplace, as well as a full stack of firewood to burn in it, so along with some of our camping equipment we fared much better than others no doubt. The stack of firewood is half what it was, but we're no longer in single-digit temps and have steady power so we got through this one in good shape.
I'm really excited to have found GemologyOnline's forum, and definitely won't be a stranger. I don't know how much I can contribute, but will be happy to whenever I can, for sure!
