I just got a new Garnet. It's a tiny Demantoid garnet from the Jeffrey Mine, Quebec, Canada.
It has a fabulous horsetail inclusion which pretty much takes over the whole stone.

Is that considered a horsetail in demantoid, I have seen some but none that looked quite like that. I am not saying its not, don't take me wrong. I guess every horse has a tail of there own. That is what makes gemstones so fascinating.

Barbra, would orientation of the cutting show it different?

I suspect so. I'm sure the cutter would try to showcase the fibrous inclusions. Demantoids with horsetails are collectable curiosities.

Had parcels of small 3-4.5mm round Demantoid coming in through Pakistan, wasn't really cut to display, but more just to get quantities to sell. But I remember looking at them threw the microscope with my gemologist and what I remember seeing was more of a side profile of a horsetail like shape of this horsetail image.
