Hello everyone!
I am having so much fun on this forum and learning so many new things! I am located in the Pacific Northwest and have never met a mineral specimen or cut gem I didn't love (except maybe Hanksite  ).

My collecting started early in Mexico and the desert SW while accompanying my grandmother, me diapered up inside elastic waist pants I'd have sagging in no time with pockets full of sparkly specimens. I'd cut class sometimes grades 1-3 to sit out in the big main hall staring at the old hand colored "gemstones of the world" in an ancient leather bound illustrated encyclopedia in a bottom floor stand, never got reprimanded!

I love Tahitian and South Sea pearls, silver blue Akoya, have a large facet collection of pretty much every color and type gemstone, am always adding to my collection and especially love anything with asterism or sheen. I love Scapolite, Heliodor, Oregon Sunstones, Rubies of all types, Garnets of allllllll types, blue Zircons, all types of Obsidian, all types of Opals, Lepidolite, Rhodochrosite, Selenite, have many crystal specimens, too many to list, I love them ALL, even quartz with magical universes inside. I am a hobbyist beader, stone setter, enjoy making simple but elegant earrings, rings, necklaces or even just odd creations using gems and gold leaf on organic materials.

I feel you can never have *too many* gemstones; I envy cutters and metalsmiths who have mastery over how to bring gems to their superb brilliance and shine. Every rock hound, jeweler/faceter I have ever met is somewhat batshyte crazy :) , enchanted by gems - we all are - and sometimes I really feel that's juuuuuust how the gems like it! I look forward to learning more here and hopefully meet some new friends!

Thanks for the welcome! Is it frowned upon to add to old threads? I have found some really great ones but from years past. I know some people can get *upset* when old threads are drug back up to the surface, but gosh, there's so much good information on here and I hope some of the OP's are still around! This is a veritable gold and gem mine online!!!

Oh no. If you have new information or confusions about a topic, by all means, add a comment.

Posting in old threads is only annoying when it's an inane one-liner. If you have something relevant to add we'll all be glad for it.

Also, welcome! You're absolutely in the right place!

Right
"Thanks for posting" is usually not encouraged.
