Hello,
I started my studies in Gem-A in Gemology Foundation,
I am very pleased with the course, it's not easy though and unfortunately, my time is limited as I am working full time as well in an irrelevant field,

A few weeks ago I had an interview with a Jewellery shop in London,
I got accepted for the role but the thing is that they ask me to sign a contract for 3 years with them because they are going to train me and teach me all the inside stuff of the business,

I'm not quite sure if I have to accept the role because my parents keep telling me that within these 3 years probably something better will come up, especially as soon as I get all my degrees Gemmology diploma and diamond diploma I'll be able to get a better job with a better salary,

I was thinking that am I might also like to follow the freelance career option,
I searched on the internet but I can not understand how this can work,

Any ideas from the professionals on what you think I should do?

Thank you

Not easy to tell. But many company want a fixed runtime when they invest in you.
Depending on what they offer you what they do.
So if they are just showing you what they do and show you some tricks and give you their knowledge it is for me a normal "investment" a company has to do to bring you to a level where you can work efficient for them.
If they want to put you in trainings which cost extra money, it is fair (again in my opinion) to fix some runtime within the contract. Otherwise it can be the risk, that you take all these courses and then leave, so the company doesnt have any benefit from it except you.
So depending on what they offer, a runtime could be fair.

I am amazed that such contracts are allowed these days. I'm pretty sure it would not be valid here in the U.S..

How would they enforce such a thing? They cannot force you to come in and preform work for them. Some sort of liquidated damages? I can see that working for a loan they give you for outside training such as Gem-A tuition. In such a case they could forgive percentage of the loan for each Mont worked. But in house training, this could not apply.

I would say pass on the job.
This is not the arrangement YOU are looking for and you are not the person THEY are looking for.
