Must have been the last couple years when I couldn't attend. It's a good idea.

Good to see that the AGA gives out awards to those who have worked diligently in their field for decades and shared their valuable knowledge.
Kind of tired of hearing about the awards given out by another association to the same people year after year and multiple times in one year.

Hi Dave - what are you looking for?
Cabbing rough
Specimens
faceting rough
faceted stones
finished jewelry
crystals
chains/settings

Rule 1: Don't waste time on most of the "wholesale only" shows. (There are exceptions, but most of them seem to have poorer quality and higher prices.)

Hey sorry I haven't been here in awhile!! I'm single and had nothing planned for the holidays but met somebody 2 weeks ago and 2 days later, we were in Key West for xmas. This was a trip she had already planned for herself. It was either gonna go terribly wrong or really good and thank god the later worked out :) I'm also bringing her to Tucson with me. I have plane tickets and old friends offered a place to stay. Just need a rental car. She won't get there till Friday afternoon but I will be there Thursday the 1st around 2pm and dinner sounds good to me. I'm specifically looking for faceting rough only! Again, I'm new to this and have only cut about 8 stones so I'm looking for decent lower to middle quality stuff. When I figure out how to be competent at cutting, then I'll consider things like tourmaline. I would certainly appreciate any advice or help with this as I'm blindly going in on this!!! Funny thing is we had an Austin Jewelry and gem show where 2 different guys had lots of faceting rough where I bought $200 worth. So then the Austin Gem and Mineral show comes here and I got all excited just find out not one vendor had any rough at all. So I'm really looking forward to this!!!

Pic from our trip!!

Yeah, 22nd street is a definite must-visit this year (it always is but perhaps more than ever now).

So, the date and time are set, let's get the location hammered out as I'd like to make the reservation this week. My proposed location as mentioned in the original post is Rigo's Mexican Restaurant
http://www.rigostucson.com/
Among other pluses they have a buffet in addition to their menu which should simplify matters a lot for ordering and service. They're also a bit out of town (not very far just a bit), less crowded, less noisy and the food is good. I love El Charro and their invention of the chimichanga and all, but it's not an ideal venue for a big group on a busy week.

I'll be honest, I didn't get any drinks so I don't know what the situation is like, though I'd assume they at least hit the standard Mexican restaurant minimum. I can call and ask tomorrow.

22nd street is on 22nd street  (just kidding here's the site with full address and information http://22ndstreetshow.com/ they've been getting bigger every year and a number of dealers I follow are setting up there now. It's gonna be a good time.)

Why do you recommend 22nd st.?
What makes it a "must go"?

well, we usually go there every year and have to say, despite it doesn't "appear" so special, i was able to find some interesting stuff there. For example there's a booth selling relatively "cheap" samples of weird stuff. Last year i got a Taffeite and Painite samples for my collection 8)

facet rough there - over the years we have gotten nice facet rough, including tourmaline, morganite, emerald, topaz, and sunstone. Prices there were the best we found for those things, though that isn't always the case every year. But if you are looking for cheap facet rough for a beginner (which was the request), that is where I point.

Oddly enough I like the idea of not doing El Charro.
