Just a heads up: The address of the correct restaurant is 5851 N Oracle Rd. I mention this because our GPS and google maps came up with two different locations under the name Rigos.
See y'all there!
Hello everyone, I figured it might be a good idea to start arrangements for the GO dinner a bit early this year. I'm willing to make the reservation and get there early to make sure things are set, but we need to figure out the best date and the best place.
Datewise, I think the largest concentration of people are around the first weekend of February, so that is the tentative time range. I will be there from the 27th to the 6th if I remember right. Let me know when you're available!
Locationwise: El Charro is traditional, and last year I didn't have trouble getting a reservation. However, there are two potential downsides: it is crowded (meaning service tends to be pretty scattered) and loud (either from ambient noise or bad basement acoustics). We scoped out a potential alternative when we were there last year, a place called Rigo's that's a little bit out of town. The food was good, they had a buffet as an option (easy for lots of people) and it has a fair amount of space without too much crowding. If people would prefer to stick with tradition I understand, but please give your thoughts!
One other thing I'd like to mention: please don't invite people who aren't connected to the site at all unless it's your family or someone in the industry who you know really well.
So for the tl;dr, if you want to come to the dinner meetup, post your interest, available dates and restaurant preference.

I am planning on being in Tucson for the show.
Arriving on Jan 29 and leaving on the 2nd. that will give me 3 complete days to wander. In the past, I've booked a week and then after day 3, start taking day trips out to the desert. So this time 3 days! Staying at Tucson University Park.
Re: El Charro. I like it but everything Stephen said is correct. I know that Alberto is not that fond of Mexican food.

Not that I have any pull here since I'm a newb but, I'd prefer a dinner sooner than later during that visit so that I could get some credible info on who to buy from. Instead of finding out I blew it on the wrong people

Hi Dave - what are you looking for? Cabbing rough Specimens faceting rough faceted stones finished jewelry crystals chains/settings
Rule 1: Don't waste time on most of the "wholesale only" shows. (There are exceptions, but most of them seem to have poorer quality and higher prices.)

That's true. Perhaps because the cost of renting a booth in one of those venues is very high. I have gotten some values at GJX in the past.

Chances are I won't be there at that time, but the last time I ate at El Charro, the food was cold and the service was horrible. For Mexican, I do intend to get to Teresa's Mosaic Cafe at least once. Great service and great food. Love to watch the woman making tortillas.
I think feb 1 has to be the date. Any objections on 7 as per last year? Hopefully we will be there long enough for Alberto and Mikko to drop by as well.

They had a buffet there last year that was really good. Food always hot when you got it, and it was really good. (Of course i tend to overeat in that situation.)
