Good question! Actually GRS has four labs around the world (Lucerne, Hong Kong, Bangkok and Colombo). The GRS staff does the pre-assessment of the stones and prepares all the goods for Dr. Peretti. But it's true that Dr. Peretti personally looks at every stone that GRS produces a report for. Every few weeks he travels to the different labs and adds the final comment for each stone. This is only possible because he works about 14h a day....

It sounds strange to me... So the clients usually have to wait several weeks for each stone, unless they have a luck to submit the stones during the visit of Dr. Peretti?

On the other hand, in color stones certification it’s not enough to have a look on the stone in many cases, especially for origin determination. It's more like investigation process that needs time and serious analytics. And if analytics is done by the staff, it can be sent to the boss for considerations, so personal visit won’t be so necessary...

Short waiting periods are necessary if he is not at the location where you submit your stone. Otherwise there is an express service available and you can get your stone back within 24h (or even faster). The staff does all the analytical testing before he arrives. Dr. Peretti then compares the different test results and analyses the stone with the microscope. Hope that makes sense :-)
