GWLAB™ is an independent gemological chain of laboratories, founded by Gemewizard® - a pioneer in the development of software solutions for colored stones, fancy colored diamonds and jewelry industries, enabling the analysis, description and communication of color in gems.

Each GWLAB branch is a gemological complex composed of four sections: GWLAB gemological laboratory; jewelry and precious stones appraisals department; GW College, also known as Gem Color Academy, for gemological and gem-trade education and courses; and GWLAB Research and development center, led by Gemewizard experts.
GWLAB provides a variety of services, including: diamond grading, colored diamond grading, laboratory-grown diamond grading and gem identification and jewelry reports; professional consultation to jewelers, goldsmiths, insurance appraisers, tax authorities and the public; appraisal services for jewelry and precious stones; laser inscriptions services on diamonds and colored stones; and educational lectures and seminars about a wide range of gemological and gem trade-related topics.

Barbara - is GWlab reputable in the industry? I am a recent graduate gemmologist and was thinking of taking their distance education coloured gemstone grading course for extra learning. I also may decide to use them long term for appraisals. Thank you.

Yes, very reputable.

The question is, as always, can their methods compete with the reverence the trade and public have for GIA.

Not yet.

I was thinking the course would be like a "development"of knowledge in terms of how it works with their signature colour grading system rather than a stand alone professional qualification.

If i am not mistaken, GIA currently uses the GemEWizard tools on their colour grading diploma.

Anyway thanks for your input.

I know they used to use it.
Not sure about now.
Let's ask our pal Paul and see if he knows.

Sorry for the delayed response, I do not believe that any of the tools are being utilized within our current programs. However, they are often mentioned by instructors in the context of color grading tools that are available in the trade.

I believe that the nomenclature that GemeWizard uses is consistent with the color grading nomenclature that GIA is teaching. However, I never saw the tools being used at GIA.
