Interestingly, I have attended yesterday a very interesting conference from Pr Emmanuel Fritsch on the same subject (how to describe colors in gemstones) and explaining very clearly why gems' colors cannot be faithfully reproduced on photos, and why they cannot be reduced into percentages and figures.

I think there will, in of the next issues of our paper Revue de Gemmologie. It will be in french though and I doubt you can see it online. If you like Barbra I can send you a scanned copy when it comes out.
