Does anyone know the difference between the two localities opaque rubies. I am intersted in carving material that is opaque purple. Is there a treatment that is usually used for this opaque material like fracture filling with lead glass or is that only used in the finished or gem quality material? Is the Indian locality usually the purple variety you see as I have seen both redder and purple varieties on finished carved pieces but not much color between.
India produces a pretty wide range of colors inclueing a lot kf purple tones (though low heat would likely reduce or remove purole tones). The Tanzanian stuff can be much larger and seems more universally pink/red.
