G'day,

I am having trouble deciding which PAN diamond combo to use on my new Diamonatrix.

I am considering

14k/100k - this would be an upgrade but my process would be the same. Preform - Cut - Pre - polish - polish

or

3k/60k - I am wondering is the 3k is agressive enough to use as cut and polish in one step? I've heard the 14k can be used to cut small stones so im really interested in how agressive the 3k is? If it can reduce the process to Preform-Cut/Pre - polish - Polish thats huge, especially when using a dual band lap, I wonder why I dont hear about people doing it?

Any other suggestions that might compete with Pandemonium DIASTIKs?

Any thoughts would be much apreciated.

Cheers,

GM

8k/60k would be my advice. As far as 3k as a cutting medium, it is aggressive enough to push a facet into place, but is not a cutting grade mesh. With small stones, tiny facets, yes aggressive is measured differently.

Agree, completely. If you want to experiment, start with the finer size diamond. You can always go to coarser grit afterwards.

Thanks for the response. Any reason for those particular grits over the others?

Jon's PolyCrystalline diamond STIKs.
And there is always just diamond powder and lubricant. Where you control the volumes used.

Experience and personal faceting style.
As you gain experience across specific gem types and sizes you will discover different methods to your final results.
Everyone who is experienced in gem cutting will have a somewhat different set of styles.
It isn't clear here where you are in your experience! It sounds like your trying to decide on what you want to make a new Dominatrix lap. Like already stated, if you start at 14k/100k and find your not getting the result fast enough or even a decent polish (not necessarily going to be combo here). Move to 8k/60k, and if the 8k is not giving you the pre-polish from your cutting to move on to the 60k (again not necessarily going to be the combo here as well).
Probably your cutting laps are leaving a surface that needs attention before you goto the Dominatrix. Like A Batt with 3k.

As has been stated, everyone has their particular preference for polishes, laps, speed, and the position of the moon in their birth sign. And all of them are right.
But I can tell you the most popular of the products we make as public votes.

POLISHING

PANDIMONIUM ®60K PCD sales exceed the sum total of all other grit sizes combined. This is followed by the 100K PCD. We are always making it.

PREPOLISHING
8K Mono followed by 3K PCD followed by Regular Mono 3K PCD. The 13K PCD is the odd duck, loved by some, and ignored by others.

Anyway this is what the public says when they order.

Over the last couple of years, business had grown to the point I am too commercial, so try to tread lightly. So I answer questions but things like new product releases, etc, I leave alone. You know, they sound like ads, so..

He was Fourteen last week!

Last Fall, the neighbor's goofy dog ran over to me. We were out walking. Iggy thought the dog was attacking me, and jumped in front, lunged at the dog's face, and chased him from the yard. I apologized to the neighbors.

Jon, I understand the conflict but would certainly not mind if you present new products here and we might get some discussions about them.

In the past I used to when they were in development, but even then there was mumbling about it. But in later years, I felt that a new product announcement was literally an Offer of Sale, and that would cross Barbra's Red Line. Truth is, we added a production facility 12 miles from here and hired five people. That sounds pretty commercial to me.
If you go back to when the Darkside came out, the actual thread was started by a user. Craftspeople talk about their tools all the time. Had I posted it it would have amounted to "Operators are standing by! CALL TODAY!" or something odious like that.
I recall a thread years ago about "I'd like to see them make" That was different. We were soliciting ideas from users. No actual products existed, and there was nothing to sell at the time.

Just trying to do the right thing...
