justinkprim,
Fascinating to watch. Just watching how out-of-round that lap was scares me if it ever wound up to a decent speed Much less how unstable that mast looked with the arm up high (very light pressure or it's sure to bend).
However, truly an education in how far the technology and hobby have come with current machines having so much accuracy for relatively small outlay.
Thanks so much for posting,

Nice work Justin - thanks for the interesting insights into faceting evolution. Any timeline comparison with the Jura vertical lap machines / Bunter predecessors?

No actually I think its a direct descendent from the unique cutting machines of Maine from the 1890s-1920s. I will have a video about this machines later this year but when you see them side by side, the inspiration is undeniable. Just a coincidence that it looks similar to the Bunter style. The more I learn about Bunter and the watch making industry of Geneva, I realize now that the Bunter is basically a watchmakers lathe that has been adapted for gemcutting. The Bunter is in a universe of its own, similar to the bubble that the Maine machines existed in.
