Hello, I recently came across Ceruleite which is an amazing blue color stone that looks incredible. There are plenty of sources for cheap jewelry made from it but does anyone know where I can find some rough. I would really like to find at least one or several small rough pieces... maybe a 1/2 pound total or more if its affordable. I just can't seem to find where to buy the rough from. If anyone knows of a contact, please let me know.

Do you have an in-law you want to get rid of?

Cu2Al7(AsO4)4(OH)13·12H2O

Don't believe I would want to be cutting this stuff, the arsenic might win... Wearing it is kind of iffy...

I have heard that realgar and autunite are very pretty colors!

:smt017 Good grief. Even the copper could get the better of you when cutting.

Abeck, I love your comment "Do you have an in-law you want to get rid of?"

Hi Carver, your last response brought you to 10 approved posts. You now have full forum privileges including PMs.
Sd4610 needs a few more approved posts before he can send and receive PMs.

I'm optimistic he will get up to 10 soon. :D

Before messing with that stuff, I'd check out this table...

https://www.gemsociety.org/article/gemstone-toxicity-table/

With a "High" toxicity risk, the spray/dust/grindings from cutting this material would be good as rat poison.

But then, the Darwin Award is always open for entries...

That table is popular but not very good or informative. They should have removed it a long time ago.
Not that I'm endorsing this material or its safety, just that the list seems less than informative most of the time.

As a lapidary myself I tend to lean on the side of caution when it comes to working with minerals not commonly found used in the field. I to do not find the the gem society's info very informative when it comes to detailed data.
If the same mineral as the Op's post, Midat.org has the following:
Formula:
Cu2Al7(AsO4)4(OH)13 · 11.5H2O
IMA Formula:
CuAl4(AsO4)2(OH)8(H2O)4
Elements listed:
Al, As, Cu, H, O - search for minerals with similar chemistry
Health Risks:
No information on health risks for this material has been entered into the database. You should always treat mineral specimens with care.

Knowing for sure what this posted image of this mineral is actually comprised of needs to be identified to understand the possible health risks.
I truthfully would say "not gonna touch that" on my equipment, to many other pretty Blue rocks commonly used with out the possible risks.
But if your a lapidary that always wear bioHazzard outfits when cabbing, carving or whatever then no harm.

Everyone should be wearing tons of ppe while cutting regardless. I always have my apron, ear pro, respirator plus safety glasses on the saw. I look like a ninja turtles villain but it's worth it.
