Hello

I was thinking of buying a rough emerald and having it cut, which I have never done, but to me, it looks nice and clean. I just dont know how the color would turn out. Someone told me that the crystal color may be alright on the outside, but it could lose the color once cut.

if anyone could tell me their expert opinion, i have attached a video.

its a panjir emerald rough

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XT9yTVb ... e=youtu.be

plz let me know if you think the color would be too light or pale.

I know the color can really make a difference in value

also, its a 10 carat crystal, I was told I should get around 5 carats out of it.

Thanks

Normally I would expect a stone like that to darken a bit if well cut.

Look down the C axis to see if the color is even or if it has a light core. You did not show us that direction in the video.

It looks like a nice (medium to light) colored emerald. Also looks a bit bigger than 10 carats to me.

hello

The seller has this stone, I havent bought it yet.

He will be sending more videos soon.

I was just thinking about it.

I just asked one cutter, he said I should expect about 3 to 4 carats once cut.

Emerald is the most confusing stone ever, ive seen many priced so high it is crazy, this piece is being sold at 3000 usd for the piece, asking price. One cutter said that is way too high, more like 600 for the piece he mentioned. but at the same time, ive seen cleanish stones from panjir selling for quite high prices, like 3000 per carat for even medium tones with some inclusions. i guess it all comes down to color, but hard to know what the color is gonna end up being. if it is light, the prices are quite low. if it is a medium tone, it might be worth it i guess.

Emerald is one of the toughest roughs to learn how to buy.

There are two quick views of the C-axis in the video... 0:09 & 0.28 marks.

I think a 50% return from the cutting process is a bit on the high side. Perhaps 30-40% would be realistic.

Nice stone. :D

It appears to be a nice crystal specimen, so I would think the 3k price tag is based primarily on that and not as cutting rough. I tend to agree that it is at best only going to give you what you already see in color. What you do not know is it's actual eye color as all any of us have is a video. So sad the gentlemen had to go drop it at the end of the video. Yield I think is going to depend on the cutting style.
