My very first cut stone, a lemon citrine with some veil inclusions and a wee rainbow, came out to 7.34 ct.

There were many hiccups along the way and so many adjustments needed to get the polish right which is either due to the fact that this is my first stone, or owing to the very old platform machine it was cut on, or both! IRL the cut seems to produce a 'glow' effect int he stone rather than a sparkle.

It certainly is not a perfect specimen by any account, but it's a start. Shot with my iPhone 6 + Ollo Clip 10x Macro Lens

Nice job. What did you polish it with?

thomas.adamas I used 325 copper with diamond & 1200 diamond, Cerium Oxide for polishing.

much bigger than my first one. By the time I was done it was down to less than 6 mm (ooops)
Very nicely done.

It will get easier.

If I read the above post correctly, you used copper for polishing?

some are lucky enough to have copper for cutting, but I do not think that many use copper for polishing.

I think that if you try a BATT or Matrix you will have an easier time.

My personal preference is a dominatrix, which has batt for prepolish and MATRIX for polishing. I then use the back (which is all BATT) AND MAKE A BANDED LAP WITH FIREWATER AND 100,000 POLY. I LIKE THE matrix A LOT, it is very flexible, but I also like how the batt absorbs the diamond, eventually you get it saturated and get a very very good polish. (You also save on the poly)

Wilson, I'd say 6 meters is plenty big enough. :-)

nice job! way better than my first stone. "Hides the stone in the fish tank of forgotten dreams"

If you take your time and cut slow till you are used to cutting, you will do really well. its when you rush that you end up making mistakes.

I'm just learning too and my first stone started out as a 15mm by 15mm rough and by the time I was done fixing all my mistakes, 4 days later, it was only 4.6mms. It just kept getting smaller and smaller and smaller. Your stone looks good though. Keep it up.
