I hope you will enjoy this new video I made which explores the history of gemcutting in the mountains of France. In the video, I show some of the different historical localities including the last major cutting workshop up there. I also speak to the owners of two of the biggest gemcutting companies in Paris. Enjoy

Justin,

Fascinating video and a lot of history to digest and google away on. However, quick question for you. At about 13:00 minutes in there's a shot of a man using a machine with just a curved piece of metal to (my guess), align his angles for the cut/polish/etc. Do you have any guidance on how such a machine would work in practice? How would you maintain angles as you rotated around the stone? How would you change to a new index? In other words, it looks almost like magic to get so skilled you could produce a stone with meets, correct angles and everything else. That, to me, would mean I almost feel like cheating with the machines we have now with digital readouts, rigid index selections and all the other bells and whistles.

Any words or info would be appreciated, I feel like I've just watched a master working with nothing more than a chisel creating the statue of David.
