It has indeed become a quiet thread. They look very included but sparkle and disperse light like crazy. I really need to find a way to replicate that somehow in future photos.
Even with the inclusions, they look almost melted into the stone, and don't cloud it at all. Very good photos.
Now on my end again, I've got a pair of topaz, the guerrero was an experiment with getting an even C axis colour for a larger indicolate I'm doing later, and the white is an Australian piece with a lot of silver inclusions through it. The cut is Van Sant's Altair and it was a rather stress-free design to try crown-first faceting on.

Here's something unusual - well, for me anyway. Enstatite, RIs 1.660-1.670, characteristic 506 nm absorption line in the spectroscope, 6.48 ct, 12.4 mm long oval. The girdle is intentionally a bit thick because the material has fairly easy prismatic cleavage and tends to fray on thin edges.

Do you know the origin of the material?
Hello Martine. Unfortunately I don't know the origin. Four pieces were in a mixed batch of unidentified rough sent me from Durban. At first I thought they may be andalusite because of the pleochroism, but the RIs and absorption spectrum confirmed that they are enstatite, the first I had seen in facet quality. I cut a pair of 6 mm round brilliants too, and kept the fourth piece as a spectroscope calibration standard because of the sharp, diagnostic absorption line. (I can show them to you at the Cape Town Gem & Mineral Club's meeting this coming Saturday.)

Hi Gihays ,
The color is very attractive and may be an interesting starting point for a jeweler's frame; I imagine a gold silver association that will recall the two tones of the gem ...

Appreciate all the kind words. Steve, the prospects were dim and truth be told, still holds that dim monetary value. Has a unique look on how the color plays out. Does have that gummy color blending. Yes a two tone setting framing would give it some added life. Just one of the stones that were started and not finished I have been slowly working on to get done. As well, I just finished my wannabe USFG stone I started in 2016, Syn. Spinel and was stored away half done as time expired prior to the deadline. So when it comes to cutting for self satisfactions, it has to be back seat to what pays the overhead.

You just have to love Garnets!
Even under immense odds that it doesn't just explode under the pressure of trying to polish out the internal needles seen through the loupe via the table, if it were not for wanting to see the final color, I would of called it a loss 4 hours in. Even a flawed gem has beauty so it was try to keep the thoughts of time is money equation out of the mindset.. I think this one has every comment listed in the GIA GP chart A for Spessartite Almandite.

Yes it needs to be put back on the repair table to fix some small issues.

Almost looks like sphalerite with all those flaws and fingerprints! Must be a lively stone in the gem-grabber. Currently my latest stone is being held up by a rainy weekend, it's almost done...

How does this material handle while on the lap, Duncan? I ended up buying a piece this year and it really does look like a good piece of andalusite. The cleavage seems like it's way more of a problem in the Hypersthene form than crystals.
