Steve, No email looks the same as site, agreed. The image appears to me that the center image of the three covers is the original concept and the two outer are the new proposed (spiral bound edition & a bound edition). My understanding in reading the update is blurry compared to the image. Partly due to my own beliefs based on the videos and such of the planned book for sale.

He is claiming that the new printer will be using an upgraded paper. As long as the paper stock is heavy enough, I think the spiral bound book will be the most useful as a reference. It can be fully opened and lay flat, while taking up 1/2 the room on a desk. The GIA Lab Manual work the same way, and it is one of the things I like about them.

I guess it is best to wait and see what Justin ends up shipping.

Hi all. It’s seems that my attempt at transparency has made things cloudy. What you saw In that update are binding mock-ups. Blank white pages in the weight and texture I’ve chosen that have been bound as the real books will be bound to show me what the final binding quality will be like. I didn’t mean for the picture to hold much weight because you can’t see much but I realize now that many people didn’t really read the words, just looked at the photo. A few angry emails came my way which confused me a bit.

As you can see in the update description, everything about the book has been upgraded, paper weight and quality, printing style, and the quality of the cover. Those things are not visible In the photo but with the samples in hand plus a bunch of stuff I didn’t show, I can see that the quality is going to be much better than my original sample.

It’s challenging to do these kind of updates because I want to keep people updated and excited but the aggressive misunderstandings really take the fun out of it for me and make me want to just keep quiet and just get on with it.

The product is going to be amazing in the end and it really shocks me that people would assume for even one second that I would send them a book with a blank cover. It’s also surprising that people would automatically assume that books printed in Asia would be of Lower quality than books printed in America when actually the opposite is true. I don’t know of any large scale printer in America who is as big or as professional or as award winning as the printer we have selected. I guess I’ll keep quiet with updates until the books are done to avoid more misunderstandings.

Just trust me though, quality is my chief concern. We just finished the final revision (version 21) and I think the text is as close to perfect and error free as possible and now the money has arrive and it’s time to order!

Yes, I was amazed at the amount of armchair publishers. Not the usual response for this forum which is generally very supportive.

I've know Justin for a time and I've always found his word to be golden.
This project is certainly a learning process and will take a bit of time for him to iron out the wrinkles but everything will get sorted out.
