First: All the pieces shown here are awesome!
I just wanted to share this, to show that faceted amber has been around for a long time. I recently inherited this amber necklace that once belonged to my great-great-grandmother, which means it's from the middle of the 19th century. Sadly not all of it's previous owners have treated it well and all the beads have hairline cracks. Still - it's a very beautiful heirloom and highly valued by me.
Hairline cracks can occur just by the oxidizing of the surface. I'm sure the color was more yellow when these beads where new. Oxidizing makes them deeper in tone.
