He makes a valid point.
I think grading synthetic diamonds is absurd.

Think about it.
It's absurd.

Very much in line with what Debeers is trying to do. Depreciate the precieved value of Lab Grown to save the precieved value of earth mined.

From the DeBeers LightBox website on how they price lab grown stones.

"So our solitaires don’t need certificates to describe them.

What’s the point? They’re all the same. Equally beautiful, each and

every one."

An interesting experiment in marketing for sure.

The GIA will grade synthetic diamonds, both CVD and HPHT. why??

Barbra, this is the first that I have heard of this. Where did the information come from? I do not believe it to be accurate as I have seen reports for both types of processes. To the best of my knowledge the only variance from the natural reports is the specific color and clarity descriptions.

Shoot. I read it on the interweb.
Are you inferring that not all info online is reliable.
I'll correct.

 If you happen to recall, I would love to know where online it gives that information. I asked some of the instructors and they mentioned that they have received a couple of student inquiries about it previously.

I just received several synthetic diamond pieces of jewelry for an appraisal so I started doing a mega internet search.
Perhaps Reddit may have been the source of the misinformation.

I think the confusion on GIA Reports on Lab Grown may be the result of the recent announcement that GIA is changing their reports in response to the recent FTC rule changes on Lab Grown nomenclature. I saw a couple of headlines that essentially said that GIA was now going to grade lab grown diamonds in response to the new rules.
