Post subject:  2014: I live in Tucson and volunteer to help

Hi
I live in Tucson, am learning gemology and volunteer to help any one attending any of the MANY gem shows in any way I can.

My helping A vender at one of the gem shows would go A long way in getting my foot in the door of the gemological industry.
I will work hard, keep my eyes and ears open and not ask any newbie questions.

If any one has any Tucson related questions before they even leave home, feel free to ask.

I look forward to hearing from people who share my passion for gemology [and geology]

Thanks Will.
What restaurant do you think would be a good call for someone who doesn't eat red meat in the neighborhood of the Hilton Tucson East, 7600 E Broadway?

Salads, fish and even some chicken would be fine.

I have to run errands that way in the morning so I will have a good answer by lunch time [Az time].

Better yet, some one who lives here at my house is a vegatarian and will be home at 2100 hours.
I'll ask her as soon as she gets home.

Something to keep in mind is that the VERY BEST food in this entire state is only A half(?) hour drive south of Tucson.
The restaurant over looks a golf course and the food is way/much better than the view.

The chef owner has astronomicly high chef credentials with the cooking skills and knowledge to go w/his credentials.
The sous chef is a VERY GOOD cook too.

As far as thinking about the distance/time of driving there, two things to keep in mind are that the speed limit on I10 is mostly 65 mph, [highway signs in Arizona measure distance in Kilometers] and then almost as soon as you turn onto I19, the speed limit goes up to 75 mpg just past Valencia and that there is absolutely no "traffic" going south on i19 once you get past Irvington and Valencia.

Then, Lavender's restaurant is close to the highway once you get off at Duval Mine Rd.
[You can almost tell where I get my passion for geology and gemology--the roads are named after mines]

For the most cost efficient vegatarian meals, the chef class at Pima Community College Desert Vista Campus cooks the meals served in the college cafeteria.
The have "Meatless Monday's" [and "wheatless Wednesday] and serve lunch from 1130 hours till 1315 hours at the very small cost of only five dollars for a full meal with big flavors.

The food is cooked by chef students and supervised by A lady chef who was one of the chef's chosen to go to The White House

Quote:
Chef Mikesell, director of non-credit certification in culinary arts at Desert Vista Campus, was selected as one of 99 chefs from around the country to kick off the Chefs Move to Schools program in Washington, D.C., in June.

The chefs participated in Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move campaign to promote better health in America’s children through better nutrition, exercise and education. Mikesell was chosen because of her volunteerism and her work in promoting childhood nutrition.

For someone at the Kino Sports Complex 2500 E. Ajo Way gem show, the college is under 10 minutes away.

[forget google maps--just get on the highway that you are looking at from the Kino Sports Complex gem show and veer onto i19 one hundred eighty seconds later and then the college is right there two hundred and forty seconds after that.

The vegatarian in my house just got home:
The Good Egg, 5350 E Broadway Blvd Tucson, AZ is open untill 1400 hours [2pm] and has the best biscuts that I've had in Tucson.
The "biscuts and gravy" have A LOT of pepper in them--they offer the biscuts as A side dish.

Oh, some thing to keep in mind at any Tucson restaurant is that, with Tucson right at about an hours drive from Mexico, it is very common for the food to be spicy hot.
Even if you ask the waitress if the food is spicy hot and she says no, you have to keep in mind that the not spicy hot might be to some one who eats HOT peppers for A snack like some people eat chips.

The vegatarian in my huse goes mostly to "Lovin' Spoonfuls" on Campbell--it is an outright vegatarian restaurant and is a little bit of a drive from where you asked about.

I emailed A ranking member at The Chef's Association of Southern Arizona and asked her so i should have a good answer in the morning.

High end Italian should hopefully be appropriate.

A chef who is an officer at The Chef's Association of Southern Arizona suggests Zona 78 and there is one very close to where you had asked about.

Since A chef who has been a chef since the 1960's and is a ranking officer of The Chef's Association of Southern Arizona suggests it, the restaurant must fit the critera for which I had asked about.

[If you were to ask the chef who suggested Zona 78 if she knew so and so chef that you had seen on Tv, she would say "oh, they attended a presentation I gave in Las Vegas". or at what ever chef meeting venue it would have been at]

As A disclaimer, I've never been to Zona 78.
Since the chef who suggested Zona 78 is to the cullinary world what some of the GemologyOnline site administrators are to the gem world, the restaurant must be good.
