2013 USFG Tucson Seminars for faceters We are again planning to provide seminars for the faceting community at the Tucson show in 2013. At present we are still considering just one day. However, depending on demand and other feedback, we may consider other options.
For now, we have two speakers committed to the project. One will be speaking at length on concave techniques. We may allow a much longer period - say maybe 1/2 day. This way, those aspiring lapidarists will have an opportunity to really delve into how it is actually done, and maybe watch some technique.
Second speaker is from GIA and is also a faceter. He will be speaking from the scientific mind. Though, I can not reveal his topic(s) yet, it will be interesting for all of us in the craft.
*faceters - please email or pm me with your suggestions for other presentations for the 2013 schedule of presenters. I understand this seems early, but the farther ahead we plan, the less work to be done as we get close. Thanks!

Faceters and Lapidarists! Dalan Hargrave has offered to put together a 3 to 4 hours session on behalf of the USFG whereby participants will review first hand how it is that he does what he does oh-so-well. I am no expert on the concave style technique, but am interested to know how many of you would be interested in sitting in a session with Dalan.
So my questions are: 1 - if you are coming to Tucson 2013, would you be interested in one of the seats available for Dalan's session?
2 - at present, the USFG seminar is set for daytime Friday the 8th of February. If you are interested in Dalan's extended session, would you prefer to have it daytime on Thursday the 7th? Or, Saturday the 9th? (Keeping in mind that the HobNob will take place also on the same Saturday.)
I'm asking now as we must plan far enough ahead to put everything in place. What do you think?

Hi Roger,
I'll will be in Tucson in 2013 and definitely would like a seat at Dalan's presentation! I would prefer a Saturday session, but will be there for either day.
Thanks for all the work you do in planning and putting everything togther!
Tom

Hey Tom, thanks for the note. We have time to work the schedule, but it is helpful to know where folks are 'leaning'.
Hope you enjoyed (are enjoying) your time with Jerry Call.

Hey Roger, I'll be at Tucson 2013, and would definitely prefer Saturday. I'm coming down Thursday night and missing med school on Friday, so spending Friday for rough hunting and Saturday for lectures/Hobnob would be a lot easier.

Hi Arya, Thank you for responding. At present, like last year, we are looking at Friday the 8th as the primary day for the 4 regular length presentations. Assuming Dalan Hargrave is still willing and able to perform a 1/2 day for us, then it would either be placed on the Thursday before, or the Saturday after (the day of the HobNob).
Given when you will be there, then it would be best for Saturday, yes?

Yup, so if the 4 regular presentations are on Friday, then Dalan's talks would be best on Saturday for me.

I'd like to attend also. I'm hoping to be there for a couple days including Sat. Thanks.
Hi David, Glad to have you aboard. As noted earlier up-thread, the primary seminars are planned for daytime Friday the 8th of February. And, on Saturday morning, Dalan Hargrave has agreed to deliver a hands-on demo in using the 'fantasy' style machines. Should be fun, and interesting.

Hi faceters, We are still working to lock in the presenters for the USFG hosted seminars at Tucson. The date is still Friday the 8th of February. And it will still be at the Old Pueblo Lapidary Club on the north side of town. Due to time constraints, we will begin at 8:00am this year, which is a half hour earlier than last year.
Hopefully in a few weeks or so I can report the details. However, those of you who are USFG members will see it first as it will be published in the USFG newsletter before publishing here.

I'm really happy for this time change... coming from the East Coast, I always find myself ready to get going long before anything actually opens. An 8am MT start (10am EST) is most welcome.
...for those of you coming from PST side of things, I suspect coffee will be on hand.

I hope the coffee is not restricted to west coast inhabitants...some of us on EST need coffee via IV drip daily.... John and I are hoping to make it there this year. Haven't been to the Tuscon show since 2000!!!
