Would anyone be interested in "The Hanneman Identification Scheme for Rough and Faceted Gemstones"?

Hi Dr Hanneman, I did not see your response from my p.m. - so am posting this here. Please contact me by phone or email. Both are in my profile.
Am in town till Saturday Nov 30th, then I am out of town for a while. Sooner is better as the USFG newsletter will go to print in a few days.

To all interested faceters.... - this is for the Friday morning presentation at the OPLC in Tucson:
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
A two-hour presentation delivered by Al Gilbertson, project manager of cut research for GIA, regarding the basic use of DiamCalc software as it relates to colored gemstones.
As most faceters cut designs either created themselves or purchased commerically, one is always wondering whether they've made a good design choice in regards to the type of rough they are working with. For years, by trial and error alone, a faceter could improve how a particular design worked out. Due to advances in technology, it is possible that by using software specifically designed to analyze how a finished gem may turn out, one could make adjustments in the design elements or workflow to enhance an appearance - or to reduce potential detrimental effects.
Having performed years of research in this area, Mr. Gilbertson will share with us the basics of using DiamCalc software and how it could enhance our work. This presentation is for those who may have an interest in pursuing the use of software to enhance their designing or finished product.
Participants do not need to own DiamCalc software. Though, it would be helpful if you are already familiar with GemCad. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
- keeping in mind, this is for faceters both new and experienced who have an interest in determining whether a design they are working with, whether acquired or created themselves, has merit. As for merit, this could connote general overall beauty, or brightness, or liveliness seen as light contrast within the viewing area, dispersion or other factors they deem to have value.
Al will begin promptly at 8:00am on Friday morning the 7th of February. He is available till roughly 10:15 where he will need to be back at his post with GIA staff in the Tucson Convention Center. Al understands this topic will create many questions. So he will bring his formal presentation to an end at about 9:30-ish and then take questions.

Dr Hanneman will begin at roughly 10:30, and we've allowed 1-1/2 hours. In addition to sharing his unique concepts for processing identification specifically for faceters, he will also exhibit and demonstrate techniques he developed over 40 years ago that are still valid today. Dr Hanneman's methods are well-suited for those gem cutters making buying decisions when away from their shop equipment. Faceters should look at this as an opportunity to add another valuable tool to their arsenal to assist in making good purchasing decisions.

Where: Old Pueblo Lapidary Club building 3118 North Dale Avenue, Tucson, AZ 85712 - if you are at all familiar with Tucson, the location is near the intersection of North Alvernon Way and Fort Lowell Road. Can see the location here: http://www.lapidaryclub.org/directions/index.shtml
Faceters, The Old Pueblo Lapidary Club has again this year, obliged our request to use their clubhouse to house the USFG's panel of presenters. And for this we are most grateful. The location of the building is such that it is located in a residential area. And, due to this, we ask that you be respectful of their neighbors' property. If it is possible, please look for opportunities to share a ride with others as parking will be at a premium. Thank you for your consideration.
.... and now a little housekeeping If you are a current member of the United States Faceters Guild, there is no charge to participate in the presentations. If you are not a member, we'd still love to have you join us at Tucson. (Or maybe you should just join the USFG an annual membership is only $18.)
