Roger, is there a sign-up list or anything? I am late to this thread, wondering if there is still room for me to attend?
Ryan, No worry, there will be room. And there is no need to sign up as it is open seating (generally speaking) except for Dalan's presentations where we will rotate who is seated in front.
If you arrive early, there will be Starbucks coffee and a variety of pastries. We may go for a second run of coffee mid-morning.

For those of you going to the USFG seminar program NEXT FRIDAY the 8th, no need to arrive earlier than 7:45am. Unless you plan to wait in your car. As noted earlier, please be considerate of the Old Pueblo Lapidary Club's neighbors and park your vehicle accordingly. There is some additional parking behind the building. http://www.lapidaryclub.org/ and for directions: http://www.lapidaryclub.org/directions/index.shtml
If you have questions, post them here as I will be checking in daily till the program.

These talks were great! Cool to see Dalan and his crazy techniques, and great having Mitch give her talk about competition. I wish I had woken up earlier though...

I sure do wish I could attend. I'm green with envy for everyone who's attending. Perhaps next year I'll get to go and meet some of you in person.
Alan - and Arya, Next year we are looking at an expanded program. Still all tentative at present, but we are looking at 4 individual seminar/training days with a single 6-8 hour program each day. And then the final day will likely be either 3, 4 or 5 shorter seminars in the 60 to 90 minute range.

Have several top presenters already lined up.
Holy crap! I know Bruce mentioned that you were planning a greatly expanded USFG presence for next year...but this is way more than I thought. When are you planning on setting it up for? If it's during school, I need to apply for the absence request 6 months in advance, so by August. (My vacation weeks got moved to February 17th and February 24th, which is kinda late...)

Arya, it will be from the 3rd to 7th of February, a Monday thru Friday. *please understand, there are some understandings that need to be addressed, space accommodations made, and other arrangements between organizations and such. So not all is written in stone yet. But, it is looking good.
And then the HobNob should be taking place on Saturday the 8th.
Roger, why are the dates so late into the show? Most of the shows that are selling rough start the weekend before. So unless one plans on spending 7 days in Tucson, it's either come early for the rough, or late for these gatherings.

Hi Gene, Thank you for the question and suggestions. I've only been around the trade for a few years, so my aim may be off a little... but it has been my experience that most gem cutters take their rough buying very seriously. So, if we introduce the seminars earlier, when the optimum time to acquire the finest rough is available, it may create another conflict. The conflict of - do I buy rough now since I know the Afghani in Pueblo room 201 still has a few really fine pieces or Tourmaline, or, rush over to the seminar and pick up a new technique.
It is my contention the rough will win over every time.
*I am open to anyone taking over the seminar program. It is a volunteer position with no particular benefits that I know of. And then they could adjust or change it into anything they want, and whenever they want.
