Probably just a bot. They'll make what looks like an unobtrusive post, and after a few weeks go by they edit links into their post, which helps with SEO for their target site.

The edits for new members have to have Admin approval before they become live.
This platform is a total waste of time and effort for spammers.

That's interesting. Did you change that since the spam post on my heat treating thread?

If a spam post got approved it was an oversight by one of us, probably over worked, overly tired, and not reading thoroughly.
If you knew the amount of posts that get flushed, and accounts which are banned, you'd appreciate that an occasional oversight is expected.

Oh, absolutely. I've helped with that on other sites before and I know how hard it is behind the scenes to keep these things afloat. I'm certainly not trying to offer criticism, I'm just curious about the details :D

The first 10 posts needing approval was in place within 30 days of the forum's inception. We naively opened to all the first couple of weeks we were up and were inundated with posts advertising and supplying links for cigarettes, viagra, cameras, designer shoes and bags, Russian wives, you name it, GemologyOnline offered it. :D
