Hello All,

I just finished cutting a small 1.25ct Mahenge spinel for my partners birthday from a piece of rough sold as a specimen. I think it is a bit sleepy compared to the Neon ones I have seen online. The only one I have seen in person is a Neon pink that performs much better than mine in low light. I knew it would be a bit dark and sleepy from the start though. More out of curiosity how much would a stone like this cost retail? I am hoping to cut some more spinels hopefully from Mahenge once I can afford more rough.
Thank you for your help pricing the stone, please let me know your thoughts on it as well (Colour mainly) as it will just help me learn more about them.

Pricing a gemstone here based on your pictures and declaration that it is a Mahenge spinel would just be irresponsible. What tests have you had or done to establish this. Honestly looking at just the pictures it looks like garnet to me. Also in the one pic it looks like the girdle is chipped. Many things can effect the value of an individual gemstone.
Some searching on the forums will yield a lot of threads related to gemstone pricing and related online resources.
I am not saying your gemstone isn't what your saying it is, please do not take it that way.

Cough, cough.
Value? How is it determined? :smt017
Presuming your spinel is 100% properly represented:
!. Define the precise market you are using for comparison
2. Find comps for similar items SOLD within that specific demographic.

Retail prices for goods in NY and CA are not the same as MI or LA.
Online on eBay or Etsy is a substantially different market to Borsheims or Tiffany or Gem Rock Auctions or 1st Dibs

Dear All ,

Mahenge produce very beautiful spinels . Regarding color of your stone , too much reddish hue for Mahenge spinel . I do see few pinkish/red spinels but also not the same color .

I had an offer 1 month ago . very beautiful hot pink spinels from Mahenge . I will show you few rough materials .

Thanks .
