A broad topic but still can be very specific: in your opinion, which gemstones are likely to show the most significant and steady price grow and/or currently undervalued?
As what seems to happen now, I suppose that (taking for granted that all mentioned below are at least eye clean with weight over 1 ct): 1.Definetely vibrant red spinels, including the ones pinkish red from Mahenge, Jedies from Burma, Vietnamese. 2. Luc Yen blue cobalt spinel. Although these already do command quite high prices , there're still no limits to rise. 3. Sapphires of unusual colours combination, often called as parti, teal, etc but not just those blue-green; 4. Untreated rubies. 5. Red tourmalines and all its rubellite variations 6. Tsavorites and demantoids 7. Mali garnet (wit pure yellow and in a more significant weight over 3 ct) 8. Blue colour changing garnet 9. Spessartites

I'm not touching on this subject in any great detail. As this world has and still does spins in the post and current present Covid. I am with Barbra's position, who's your buyer when you need that sale to make the rent bill. There are still a lot of travel issues to deal with internationally. Most buyers know right now they are in control of prices. We recently squabbled over $50, and in the end gave in to the buyer. JCK Vegas 2021. If you put a cobbing hammer to my head, I would go off list with 3ct.+ Red Beryl, Benitoite.

There is a difference between rarity and value. Supply and demand, blah blah blah. Yes there is a small, sophisticated market for benitoite, hauyne, painite, grandidierite, taaffeite and red beryl but.....
(I'm back on the "what would be easier to sell" bus)
Unheated fine blue sapphire. Ceylon, Kashmir, Madagascar. Untreated Padparadsha, Sri Lanka Untreated emerald (old mine, with verification), Muzo, Coscuez, and Chivor Untreated Mogok ruby Argyle Pink Diamonds Untreated semi-transparent Burmese jadeite
I'm not adding alexandrite to the list because although rare and in demand it is usually very disappointing when viewed in person. To quote John Koivula, "The only gem which is ugly in 2 colors."

We are on that bus too, see us in the back seat.
I agree on the Alexandrite, every time I am asked to cut some of the rough we have, I say really it never looks all that great in the end and small, mucky many of them.
I think this thread topic is well hammered on. So many variables in answering "most price rising potential".

I think I am just going to try one of those funny tasting gummy bears, (age and bad back) and continue cutting this mixed brilliant oval Crysoberyl pavilion that seems like I have been cutting on for weeks (step-cuts) all these steps are the problem. But then I just keep thinking about the potential rise in profit it may get down the road, (minus the extra hours of cutting) equals? Steve any wild predictions for the near future? I have some of the same rough this oval was cut from that has some chatoyancy, I was gonna try a cats-eye cab and make it a wild set.
I have found Brazilian style alexandrite very appealing in almost any lighting, with those violet and blue-green colors, and best in mixed lighting. They may nkt be the 'best' color change, but I think they're really beautiful, while the full red green aren't always amazing.

Collecting gemstones in terms of their "price growth potential" should never be regarded as an "financial airbag". What is expected is to cashing stones in not for more than 10% of the entire savings. Provided I have a separate "airbag" for unpredicted situations. That will eliminate unneccesary worries "what if", leaving enough time for selling after 5-10-15-20 years of owning and allowing to choose the top stones one could find.
