Some decent diaspore rough. I like this light to med purple color and there are 3 or 4 decent sized stones that will cut clean. As long as I don't ruin them lol :) What do you guys think? Have any experience cutting these?

I am blown away with your hoard. What sizes (weights) are we talking about?

This is probably the best piece, just over a gram and should cut clean. Measures 9 x 12 x 5 mm

That 5.75ct Diaspore looks like it may yield a 1.3-1.6ct. stone, just based on your info. Have fun and hope you come back and give us an update on cutting it.

Thanks, I most definitely will! I think I'll practice on a similar smaller piece first and see how that goes. I am excited though!

We had a short article about the pink/purple diaspore material from Afghanistan in last summer's Gems & Gemology that I was happy to have a very small role in.

https://www.gia.edu/gems-gemology/summe ... fghanistan

I found the material quite nice and I was able to acquire a few faceted pieces for my own personal collection. I look forward to seeing what you cut from your rough :)

I practiced with an included piece and it cut like normal, better actually. Polished a few facets on copper with 100k diamond no problem there either. I'm going to try out the emeralds because I have been wanting to cut these for a long time but after that I'll attempt a clean piece of the diaspore, post pics next week sometime of what I got.

Here are some pics of the first stone I'm cutting, just finished polishing and transferring now. Pics aren't great but polish went ok except for 1 tiny scratch. 3k dia topper,14k resin/dia, 100k paste copper. 14k had some super flat nice facets I almost didn't do the 100k but there were some tiny scratches I thought might come out plus it just looks really good I think. Stone looks so nice in person I can't wait to do the top! I lost a lot of weight unfortunately, but it will be clean. I sorta screwed up how I dopped and basically the 1 of 3 inclusions in the stone wound up near the center. Hoping for 1.3 or something around that.

Looks like the color is going to be amazing, almost a light pink sapphire or Kunzite color. What is the shape? Oval?

It's weird lol it's kinda square but corners cut to get rid of a dimple. The color I saw from the test stone at 44deg looked really good, has that light metallic look too. Light color on this one compared to the test though, so I hope it looks as good. I think the depth should help some. I kept the bottom simple because it was going so good I didn't want to mess up. Should I do more facets on top? Or keep that pretty simple with a few bigger facets?

It's complete. Light and really reflective, I'll be changing angles next time because I can't even look at it in the strong sun. I had HUGE problems with the table. It kept wrinkling or something in pre-polish, I had to re-cut 4 times and make the table like half the size. It's like 3/4-.9ct I don't think my scale is right. Gonna do a rectangle next, maybe like a bar type cut. This cuts just something I made up, it does have a small amount of dispersion from an angle though.
