In my first of edition of Secrets Of The Gem Trade I quoted the following: . A competent gemologist can perform a fairly simple test based on what is called “Brazil law twinning.” This test is not one hundred percent certain, because it is theoretically possible to produce synthetic amethyst that would react like natural amethyst when using this test. However, this type of synthetic is not currently available in any quantity in the market. David Stanley Epstein, personal communication, 2000.
Currently working on a 2nd edition. Any wisdom on if or when synthetic amethyst has been produced or is being produced that will show BL twinning? Is this still a pretty good indication given the price of testing $25 per carat material?
