New to the Forum or The Quiet Type

This may be a dumb question but can anyone identify this stone for me? It’s black and smooth to touch on outside and kind of red on the inside.

Any help would be appreciated.

Simple answer is no, anything would just be a guess.
My wild guess is, it is alluvial (river worn, tumbled, etc.) and looks like possibly a garnet.
Guess gemology is not identification. Try to find someone local who can do some basic tests.

As Greg said, all replies would be idle speculation. Where do you live? Perhaps one of our members could take a look at the actual stone....in person.
