This is the setup im using-still developing technique- This unit has 2 led strips & a bottom light, cost less than $50.00-
i have similar setup but not the bottom light, can you provide any more details about it? for jewelry photography i use Acrylic White & Black Reflective Boards
The kit was sold on amazon, cost was $33.00, included in the kit, 2 led strips, a bottom light, 6 color backgrounds & 3 cables to connect all to a usb powersupply, sold separately. The power is available just @ anywhere. The unit snaps together & for the price works very well. More money, u get more options as light dimming, stronger lighting. Results are posted on the site here-
I Have the same light box. cannot really recommend it for gemstones photography. its led light but somehow the light spectrum is more similar to fluorescent. making it very difficult to get the correct color of the gem. if you are using a separate light source with it than its fine.
The box itself is just a reflector/diffuser. As in all things photographic, light quality is very important. It is best to buy your own lights making sure that they a full spectrum with CRI values in the 90% plus range. Also be sure to properly position and diffuse the lights so as not to create hot spots in the stone.
