AHhh. ya. Time for a new computer, download service, ram???????????

As mentioned above from a previous poster. It takes a long time...............

I think I downloaded it twice or something too.

I couldn't figure out if it was downloading.

Then it was finally done.

I ran all kinds of other searches for its download address and stuff. Its there, but it takes time.

Thank you so much GIA

Tips on downloading Gems and Gemmology from Then on.

Here are GIA Gems and Gemmology PDFs that I could not find, as GIA download links etc.....

-were nonexistent

-mia

Google searches

You have to vary your wordings and search queries
usually

example

Satellite GIA 1994
then if nothing pops up, do them individually
Satellite GIA spring 1994
Satellite GIA summer 1994
Satellite GIA Fall 1994
Satellite GIA Winter 1994

Then using the GIA's file name search of what it should be according to their system as alternative searches

SP94.pdf (spring 1994)
SU94.pdf (summer 1994)
FA94.pdf (Fall 1994)
WN94.pdf (Winter 1994)

Some of the files had indeed a PDF, but, the PDF's required a password or were password protected. In other words, there were errors with them, and even with say adobe indesign, they were inaccessible.

Then using the GIA's file name search of what it should be according to their system

Such as If anyone has these in PDF, I am pretty sure they are legal to distribute.

1. Spring 1996
2. Summer 1996
3. Summer 2008
4. Summer 2010
5. Winter 2010
6. Spring 2011
7. Summer 2011
8.Spring 2012
9.Fall 2012
10. Winter 2012

Other sources are

EBSCO Academic Premier or something like that.

My library subscribed to this service.

It features abstracts.

So basically, each article or part of the magazine separate.

This was useful, as I started my database with that format.

Then download each article, and part of the magazine separately, and enter them in your database.

Sure this system is cumbersome in comparison to downloading each PDF in full!

But, I may end up doing this for all the articles in every G&G PDF not on Gills older G&G compilation.

The benefits of course are having each article named separately in your database.

Year
Author
Page
Etc.......
To be able to have better search filters
Than have separate criteria / hashtags or whatever for each article you know
such as the basic
Emerald, Columbia, Raman Mapping, Emerald Inclusions, etc......

This may be a quicker way to find what you are looking for, and filter out things. Not have to go through 20 years worth of emeralds to find an article you read before, to recognize it by article title, etc....

So, to me, that may take a while and I haven't given it much time or effort lately.

Things that will help, in EBSCO endeavors

Ditto copy/paste clipboard manager
Programable keyboards
Macros
Mouse function Macros

even then. It is cumbersome, but compared to writing 100 some years of Gems and Gemmology......
Nothing...............
Priceless...........

Thank you so much GIA for everything you have done for me thusfar.

I plan on being a paying student and alumni.

Reading through and learning a 100 years of G&G is a priority for me though.

When I found these resources, I was so blessed that GIA would have them available.

Heck, I still Have the Ultimate Pleochroism in Facted Gems: AN Introduction just sitting next to me at my computer............

whewww...........

That is the best Resource I've found on Pleocroism.

I'm still working on learning electromagnetism though.

Basic Optics, Laws of reflection, humans seeing in color, beginners physics, and that kind of stuff....

But Wow.

Thank you GIA. Everything needed to know what to do, where to go for answers, know a little about the gem industry is there.

But even in the old archives and some of the first G&G Issues, I found what I was looking for in regards to categorizing Gem groups, which I needed to start categorizing things.

Garnet
Spinel
Topaz
Beryl
Corundum
Quartz
Turqoise
Jade
Chalcedony
Hematite
Lapis Lazuli
Tourmaline
Feldspars
Spodumene
Peridot
Organics
Opal
Chrysoberyl
Zircon
Diamond

That kind of categorizing was what I needed. From the first year of G&G!

Another thing for beginners that helps. Learning the correct pronounciation of all the gems.

That really helps, and I got my dragon naturally speaking trained in for all them in the process.]

Dictionary.com

Has pronounciation for all if not most gems. Although by a computer, others can be found on mineral websites.

ANywho, create a account, add them to a list.

You can then easily just hit buttons, and go up and down list randomly, repeatedly, and fast.

Quiz yourself, etc.........

That's it. If anyone can help the above G&G Pdfs, that would be awesome.

The most The EBSCO goes to is to like winter 2012, and so they are kind of incomplete, but possible to get up until 2012 from about 2004 if I recall.

Ya, I have long posts, sorry.

Sorry, thinslicevolta.
I have no idea what your post is explaining.
Joseph Gill has made thousands of gemologically related texts available for free download. That includes G&Gs pre 1981.
Conny Forsberg made all these books and articles easily accessible here:

The GIA has made the entire series of G&Gs available for free download:

Thanks for the clarification to GILL's texts made available, and the link and thanks Conny. :D

AT the time when trying to access the specific issues listed, there were errors in the GIA website. If I posted that I could not get a copy of them, it was because of a GIA website issue.

Other times, the PDF's had errors. They needed a password. Password wasn't GIA, or Gemmology, or Diamonds.

Since others may have accessed them before say January 2015, you may have the copies I cannot get from any searches within the GIA. The listed issues were issues that had errors in PDF format, or errors on the GIA website. Now, updated in my next post, only 2 of them are bugged currently.

The other thing I was pointing out was that you can get abstracts of some of the missing PDF's from a library catalog service Called EBSCO ACEDEMIC PREMIER. Which your local library or school may subscribe to. The abstracts have each article of the G&G Issue, but they are limited in their span. Some of the 1996 ones I could not get, were available from this EBSCO service. Since I originally got all my G&G stuff from here, and began building a database of each article in the G&G Issiues before I downloaded them from G&G, I noted that individually entering each article in a database may be a good idea, for accessing and searching for specific articles or information in a easier to find format than doing a keyword search in Gill's everything before 81 compilation. Which could take 1500 pages hits of the search "Emerald" to sort and find the right article.

I am going to try getting the G&G PDFS's again though. Doing google searches, and direct GIA searches.

I was just saying if anyone had these, pm-ing/emailing me them would be awesome. Or maybe someone had a link that I didn't know about, with all G&G Issue downloads.

Summer 1996
&
Fall 2012
