Chinese vendors looking to cash in on the frenzy over the April wedding of Britain's Prince William and Kate Middleton are selling copies of her engagement ring for as little as three dollars.

Knock-offs of the 45,000-dollar sapphire-and-diamond ring that the prince gave to Middleton -- and once worn by his mother, Princess Diana -- are on offer at various shops on Taobao.com, China's largest online mall.

Not just China - one of the television junk trinkets shows is now selling, for $19.95, the same imitation in 'silver plate' with glass....Per their own words: "WOW - Own a ring 'JUST LIKE KATE'S' for less than $20". as they hawk on and on and on...... :---) :-&

The strange part is not that they're making this stuff, but that someone is buying it.

This isn't a "scam". It is simply making and marketing a product that one believes they can sell.

There are imitation "Hope Diamonds" at the Smithsonian.
Why?
Cause folks buy them.

and he has a point.

Why not go for a more modest and smaller blue spinel, or a quality iolite for instance instead of throwing money away buying a fake or very bad quality sapphire?
Just a thought.

If I was going to fake that ring, I'd do lab spinel and zircon. Although it would cost more the $20 I guess.

While looking at salt water cultured pearls from PRC, I asked if they had any gold pearls? Next show more PRC venders showed us gold plated pearls with great pride. We bought several strands and sent some to Japan to the delight of our supplier.... and there is no humor in pearl sales?....W
