Hey all, So I'm starting the ODL Foundation course next month and I'm trying to get as much insider information going into it as possible. While I do have potentially the best resouces available to me, as I am currently working at AGL and a regular lurker of this site, I'd like to know if there are any other reccomendations in regards to other books/resources that I should get to help with the course work. I have already ordered "Gemology" by Peter Read thanks to the recommendations of more than a few people on this site, but I was curios if there was anything else people got, or wished they got, while they were taking Foundation.
ALSO, anyone else who is going to be taking the course next month, please messege me so we can use eachother as a resource if interseted.

Tim, was it a mistake to link to introduction to optical mineralogy? That book would not be very helpful, as it really focuses on identifying minerals present in rocks using thin sections. One is not taught this technique in current university petrology classes anymore. It has been replaced with spectrographic analysis.
Chapter 1-9 are extremely useful and discuss the stuff we ought to know as gemmos in a deeper fashion than we get taught by our gemmo educators. I like that book...

I am about half way through the foundation ODL Gem - A course. I have found Dee Dee Cunnighams 'Practical Gemmology' extremely helpful. It is for the Diploma level of the course, but still, it really has helped me a lot.

Thanks a lot for the recommendations. Luckily for the sake of my wallet, AGL already has several of these books available so I'll be starting on them as soon as I'm done with the Read's "Gemology."
