Sounds reasonable to add new gold as one of our suppliers up here recommends adding a percentage of new sterling shot to a remelt to deal with the porosity problem

Carrie,
yes it can help but, due to the new alloy development it can happens that some alloy contains a particular kind of element (even in low percentage) that its incompatible with other alloys contained in other pieces. the result can made a huge porosity or....nothing. good old times when yellow gold was only pure gold, silver and copper...!
and just for the record, i'm talking about 750/000 ct gold (the only title i made besides a little part of 850/000 for particular clients), so the alloy impact is less than lower titles...

I still only use those components. And palladium for white gold. The bangle is hand made, not cast .Casting old rings and stuff is not a good idea, but handworking them is OK.

I still only use this components too! but i'm not equipped for casting big pieces so, when i need to rely on external sources i know they use more sophisticated alloys.
for white gold i use both palladium or special nickel-free alloy.

Super nice work dude. How long does it take you to engrave and set such a ring? And is that black enamel in the ring?. ( the photo is a bit unclear) Or is it pierced right through? Anyway, good classical work!

Hi Hans,
i've don't set the stones by myself, we have stone setter for this, i've only built and engrave. it's pierced right through, not enameled; what about mom&son fish above?

Very nice Alberto! Love the fish and little fish. And that ring with pierce work is just lovely. Do you ever take photos of your work in progress? It would be fun to see some of these pieces in different stages of construction.
