Could anybody please tell me if these inclusions can happen naturally in amethyst (both stones were sold as amethyst)? I am especially interested in the sheets of parallel needle like inclusions with a sharply terminated edge in the lavender stone. There were several areas like this in it, the sheets of these needles are on wavy planes, and there are several sheets 'stacked' one over the other. I'd assume synthetic, but do they have a name?
At least the first one is (assuming it is quartz, though I have not seen a convicning imitation of this) lavender quartz, not amethyst per se. That isn't grown synthetically. Its distinctive translucency is the result of heat treatment.
I would agree with Stephen probably that the first one is a lavender quartz. Rutile needles are pretty common in a lot of stones and would fit the description of what you're saying at least but I also agree that the pictures aren't enough to make a definitive conclusion. The second picture is a little closer to a light amethyst colour. Amethyst (and quartz in general) are mainly synthetically made using hydrothermal and the inclusions you'd see there are either a heat wave/chevron type effect or nail head inclusions and neither would fit the description you're using so I would say they are probably both natural (assuming they are quartz).
You'd want to maybe run and SG or RI on them to get a better idea to make sure they're quartz in the first place but if they are rutile needle inclusions then they're definitely natural.
