Hello All.
Please help authenticate / identify this bangle as Nephrite or Jadeite Jade: a. it is cold to the touch b. it has several fibrous long strands throughout c. it is not one solid color (but a blend of "marble-ized colors of green and white and soft green as well) d. it is heavier-weight e. it makes a high "ping" sound when softly clanged f. it has a high-gloss surface g. It does have several spherical bubbles within. Does that make this a lesser quality/grade Jade? (see pic #3 below)
Please help us with this. Thank you.

i lived in hawaii many years and had many pieces of jade jewelry. The jewelry was stolen long ago but i still ofcourse remember its beauty and the color of what is now called imperial jade.
you will never see any jade with any kind of color swirl pattern--its not natural and it doesn't exist.

I would disagree to a degree to the "never see any jade with any kind of color swirl" there are many of jade bangles in the jade districts of Hong Kong that reveal color banding or swirling. Imperial Jade is a designation of a type of Jade and is not any kind of Jade.

Well......if we want to get technical (and you know how I love to get technical) Imperial jade is a misnomer given as a quality designation for fine quality jadeite.
All the jade belonging to the Imperial families of China was nephrite. Jadeite was not found until relatively recently in Burma.
Swirling jade.. Not like the swirls seen in the OP's glass above. Maybe like this? But it is more of an illusion which results from the cutting.

Which in your opinion your image is what is sometimes considered Moss & Snow. I agree and needs to be more technical than just all jade that appears swirling is just not real. Agree as a lapidary cutting orientation of materials can create the effect of swirling. Thank you for the technical gemological view.

Oh and yes the OP's images look like dyed agate bracelets I have seen at multiple tradeshows through out the years. But more than likely glass as you all have stated.

I think it would be fair to say China is still fairly imperialist though
Jade forms kn a metamorphic environment and it can have folds, but this kind of swirling is only seen in quickly freezing solids like glass and resin. You can see similar swirls in obsidian or some Indonesian amber with a blacklight, though rarely as nice as in this carefully fluxed manmade glass.

the swirls as in the pic of the bangle! those kinds of swirls are not natural and I have NEVER seen any jade looking like that pic! Lots of fake jade resin however.....I HAVE seen that.
I meant imperial green jade....its simply what i knew to be the oldest jade with that deep green color.

Steve...you and I were in the same Class on Glass. ....and opal another solid, NOT. But, it has been my experience that some things which were taught as factual when I was a student are now prefaced by "It used to be taught that ......"

I got nothing Barbra. Steve, nothing wrong with silly as long as it is technical and the term viscous seems technical. I'm just a lapidary and gem cutter, my technical only goes so deep in gemology, and my silly usually only gets me in trouble.
