Post subject: Can Anyone Help with This Green Stone

Hi First of all thanks for reading this post
Can anyone help in identifying this gemstone
i am new to gemology but very keen to learn
here is what ive got so far
Magnetism = No or my magnet is weak Specific Gravity= 1.25 Pleochroism= None Spectrometer ( Non prism ) = looks like jadeite / nephrite chelsea filter reaction = remains green UV = no reaction RI ( using digital refractometer) =1.545 - 1.578 = -0.033
Any help would be much appreciated

To the eye it does look like aventurine from those parallel green lines, but it looks like the color also follows cracks. Maybe a dyed stone like beryl with hollow growth tubes. This is where a microscope comes in really handy to get a better sense of exact inclusion nature and geometry.

Like Steve stated in this posters opal post always dicy when you can't do the actual tests. It does look a little dyed and the RI range would kinda be either or. Possibly not even being either.

May I suggest, rmohamm1, that you get some stones that you know are properly identified. Perhaps an amethyst, almandine garnet or synthetic, flame fusion spinel, a cheap blue topaz, etc. Test them with your instruments.
You would already know the SG, RI, Spectra, Magnetic reaction. See if your instruments are giving you reliable results.

This is the best idea yet. We are all pretty sure that the numbers you quote are wrong. This way you can figure out what you are doing wrong - or you can watch the videos Barbra references on how to do all things things.
