I'd take that one home too! Have you looked here yet? http://johnbetts-fineminerals.com/jhbny ... 20Carolina Lots of photos and very comprehensive. I'm interested to see what it turns out to be. Are those two pieces you have or just the one? One seems more "quartzy".

One can not positively identify an unknown looking at a picture. Hardness, specific gravity? Where precisely was it found? Associated rocks? Was it a "pay to dig" sight?
We can't identify it for sure, but it is probably aventurine from a sluice bucket. This material is flakes of chrome mica (fuschite) intergrown with quartz, and is often imported to the area for salted mines and sluicing. Look for fine thin flakes of green in the stone.

Stephen may be correct, but the deal is the OP should follow through with instructions offered. Seriously, why post on this platform if you are not interested in answering the questions asked of you?

Absolutely this! This is a chance to get some very handy basic knowledge in addition to an actual ID of your stone. This type of knowledge is very useful in the potentially-treacherous waters of NC tourist mines, which are a lot of fun but not always full of honest representations. We're happy to help people learn if they're willing, but you do need to be willing to do more than a quick drive-by post.
