A separate monochromatic light is required as well.
Or a filter. All refractometers made by Wildman, Kruss and Eickhorst come with monochromatic filters. I find them far superior to the ones made by GIA (sorry). I own all 3. My GIA refractometer was given away years ago.
I have used many others and actually own a couple of those you mention which I find very useful for specific purposes. The one area that I definitely prefer the GIA model for is spot readings, especially for students as the larger hemicylinder, removable magnification and ability to use white light allow for easier viewing of the spot.
I find filters to be an excellent option for monochromatic as long as the light source is strong enough.
