Help. I am about to take my written diamonds and diamond grading final. I am not getting the math down. I suck at math. My mind just doesn't work that way I guess. I know all the questionnaires with no problem, but is there a lot of the math on this final? I would say I will probably miss all of them.. will that fail me? Ugh.. I took the lab in CA over a year ago and have forgotten everything and can't seem to relearn it with the off campus edistance learning. I am so nervous I will fail. Does anyone know what happens if you fail all three attempts?

Hi.
If you did fail for ANY reason it wouldn't be the end of the world. You'd learn from your mistakes and retake the test.

Give me an example of the math which you find confusing.

Hello,

I too was worried about the math on the Diamonds final but you do have the formulas at your disposal for the test. I passed it the first time with no problems. If you study the Questionnaires, key terms, etc., the test is passable the first time. Good luck!

Take a deep breath, do not panic, calm yourself and FOCUS.... You are going to be FINE!
Even if you don't pass the Diamonds exam, you are going to be OK.
I have a friend back in NC, and one of her sayings is, "don't worry, they can't eat you!".
So far, I'm muffed a 20 stone test twice... Oddly enough, it was Corundum minerals both times.
But, I have examined a LOT of stones since then.
I've been blessed with a friend whose hobby is to buy unidentified lots of gemstones.
Yes, there is a lot of run of the mill stuff, but some odd and unexpected stones in there, too.
Point being that the world didn't come to an end, and I have actively worked so that next time around, I'll pass the test.
I can empathize with your math woes, I have problems with very high level mathematics myself.
Again, best of Luck!
Let us know how you make out...

-Tom

I would suggest contacting your primary instructor. That is what they are there for :)

I can tell you that weight estimation math is one of the most common issues for students in the Diamonds and Diamond Grading course, so the instructors are very familiar with explaining it.

You have three attempts to pass the exam with only 75% correct required to pass, so if you take the time to review all of the chapters and you passed each questionnaire without issue, there is no reason to be concerned about the final. However, if you are unable to pass in three attempts, you would need to retake the full course.

Good luck. I am taking both the diamonds finals this week and I've been studying all weekend. I know a lot of the people in my class are nervous about the math but you do get to have several charts, especially the girdle thickness weight estimation chart.

AGD for a non round stone is (Width+Length) divided by 2 !
