Hi I am doing my GG by distance education. I am being sponsored by my company to do this course. I have completed diamonds and coloured stones, and need to do the gem ID course now. Campus study days are booked up for the whole year, and my company is being very slow about looking into buying the equipment for me to do it at home. I have done the gem ID lab class a few months ago, but haven't been able to start the gem ID course due to not having the equipment to work on the stones. I have just over a year before the 5 year window expires for full GG, and am aware this part of the course takes the longest. Are GIA providing any extensions to take into account the pandemic? What happens if I am delayed in getting the equipment and dont finish in time? What happens if I finish the practical but cannot take the final exam before my course end date? I'm getting very worried and unfortunately, aside from buying the equipment myself (and possibly not get reimbursed), there's nothing i can do to speed up the process.

I'm sure they will work with you. Give them a call directly.
Also ask if there are any proxies in your area with the tools necessary to enable you to complete your class.

Please feel free to contact me directly at pmattlin@gia.edu I would be happy to point you in the right direction.

As general information, keep in mind that through distance education, you enroll into each course individually, so your 2 year time limit to complete the GID course does not start until you enroll. There is no overall time limitation on completing the GG program through distance education.

Jade46,

Where are you located? Maybe we can find someone who has equipment to help you out.

Do you suggest calling Carlsbad or the London campus where I am based?
