I am planning on selling my sapphire and other stones online and I have heard stories over the years of sellers losing their stones or not getting paid. I assume the buyer somehow "claws" back the funds after receiving the gem.
Anyway, is there a preferred method of being paid? As someone from the US, is it best to stick with domestic sales?
I am just starting out doing this so I am not sure about navigating foreign customs if I receive a sale from overseas.

Vet your buyers extensively!!!!!!!!!, ask for references, check the references, use extreme caution sending memo goods internationally. There are no sure methods of 100% protection. Use financial industry payment processing like Square, Paypal, E-Check etc.. Offer returns or incentives that you can actually honor as the seller to gain industry trust. The list goes on and on.

Excellent advice, Greg.
I have recently added Zelle to the list. Seems reliable.
Zelle is super fast almost instantly & perfect for small transactions, I only had one time a problem which the issuer bank should have verified the transaction and took one day, as good as it is unfortunately it has a daily/monthly limit, some banks allow you to send $5,000 in a month, but not in one day.
anyways some of my favorite checkout system/POS you can use are: PayPal Here (Business Account), Square, WaveApps, Zelle, PayPal Zettle Point of Sale, Venmo... any of these platforms are secure and easy, once you verified your account deposit and withdrawal take no time. also depending to your bank you can have their own POS system just contact your bank to find out. If you need a Card Reader then Square & PayPal Zettle are simple choice

Thanks for the advice. I was more worried about selling a stone and having the buyer somehow claw back the funds after receiving the item, but it doesn't seem like that is a worry these days/anymore?

you should take all steps for a secure payment, there are lots of scammers. for example they try to send you a fake phishing mail from PayPal that the invoice/amount has been paid in full you should always check from payment Dashboard to check if the transaction went through. also I would take a picture of the ID and W-9 form from clients, for export I would use a through KYC form, and for wholesale I use AML/CTF and ST-120 Reseller form
