Its snowing and I am bored. So, a little comic relief. Did a little ebay scouring for your enjoyment. Its just terrible when people have more money than education. Think, politicians. Judging by the tweezers, this stone? must be about 1mm thick. Bidder has a score of 3. I wonder if I bid $20 would I get outbid. I hope this lot doesnt go any higher. But I really dont care. 1 carat each, rough. Smaller than BB's. Yeah its big, But I would rather have the steak dinner I could buy with $27. Oooh! What a bargain. 22 bids! Just, ouch. Double ouch. Another low score bidder. Saving the best for last, a nice cobalt glass filled sapp cab with ugly rays. My head hurts.

That's because you got the skills Scar. If someone goes retail shopping for an untreated fine ruby, they will see a 2carat stone hovering between $20G and $30G. Then someone on eBay offers a "blood red" gem ruby, 4ct for $9.99. What an idiot this seller is! Doesn't know what he/she has! Score!
Look at that 9.06 selling for under $50 that nick posted. Man that looks like a helluva deal...to someone that isn't hip to glass filling, no?

To be a bit fair to the seller: Both the faceted and rough rubies are disclosed as lead glass filled. It's up to the buyer to understand just what they might be getting. A little research before purchase should be in order.

I will wager a footlong hot dog that 98% of the general population and 97% of ebay buyers have no idea what leaded glass filled means. The seller I have been showing sells hundreds of faceted stones. Before I started cutting, I bought a 8mm lgf SRB ruby from him, about $12, very pretty and clear with no zoning. When I saw a tiny bubble inside I did some reading. Now I know better. I agree with Barbra, but only up to a point, the 12 bucks I paid, +$8 shipping, was worth it. A good present for the other half. But to hit the $50 mark? OUCH
You may have missed it, but for a little while LGF rubies were not super super cheap. That was before the durability issues became so well known, of course, but they haven't always been in the dog house. You can expect some spillover from better times, I would imagine.

true. I clearly recall when i saw the stuff for the 1st time here, asking price was 3-400 $ p ct for 2-4 cts.........which was actually very reasonable if compared to price of the Mong Hsu......... after few months the cat was out of the basket, thoguh..................
Snowing again, so another ebay update. When they bid versus when I bid. The above lot jumped to $12 the last few seconds. Didnt bother to wait these 3 out. Probably about the same final prices. I have seen the amethyst go for $4 My purchases, the group of 4, a few hours earlier. Missed out on the amy, but he sells it all the time. I usually bid $5 max and wait and see. Shipping is $3 + .50 each additional lot Not too bad. Got plenty anyway. Pretty goodlooking citrine IMO. Might facet the cab, gotta see it first. While typing 2 lots went up a buck ea.

I read recently that eBay is a prime supplier of lead glass filled stones for unscrupulous buyers/dealers who know what they are buying but resell, either in their shop or online, without disclosing. I'm sure there are a lot of ignorant buyers as well, and some like composite stones, but there is a whole market geared at deceiving.
I had a question In regards to the lead glass filled rubies and sapphires I was hoping you could answer. Is the glass filling used in the new composite stones similar to the lead glass that comprised the old paste stones from years past? How do they compare in durability overall? Thanks!
