Hey community, Is anyone familiar with the attributes of yet another lab created diamond going by the industry name of Lannyte? I know there was discussion a while back on some other sims, but with this one, I am not familiar. Any info. is much appreciated. Thanks!
Lannyte is a company that sells diamond simulants, not synthetics. Their products are not lab created diamond, they're some other product that they're trying very hard to brand. They call it a "Proprietary Minerals Diamond Simulant", and say they keep the specifics secret so the competition won't find out what it is. That is, in my opinion, BS; it would be trivial to find out the structure and composition if you had access to the right equipment, which is not too hard to get. Secrecy like this implies to me that they'd just rather the customer not know what it really is for whatever reason. Indeed, I can see that at least one competetor claims that Lannyte is just plain 'ol CZ, which would be quite embarrassing if true: https://www.moissaniteco.com/guide_comm ... tones.html
Thanks Stephen for clarifying the Lannyte product not being lab created. The article was quite informative as well, and not just for the gemstone compositions. Looks like there is a real battle waging in the world of diamond alternatives. I lean toward agreeing with you. In the arena of marketing and selling gems, and particularly with simulated gems, the consumer should be able to know exactly what they are buying. I guess at some point Lannyte will peak the interest of the right person, and the "proprietary" cloak will be unveiled.
Lannyte is nothing more than well cut CZ. We sell it, I have tested it. Big rip off in my opinion. lifetime warranty, but who cares...its just CZ. We have a jeweler who sold it in his last position and thinks its really cool...it's out of my hands. I continue to try to educate the staff to call it CZ.

Yes I've tested it myself. Lannyte is well cut and polished CZ with a lifetime warranty. I consider it a good deal myself for someone wanting a CZ though.
We had the same confusion on our sales floor with them. We had people going, "you don't want a CZ... You want a LANNYTE!" - like it was some sort of new hot gemstone no one had heard of yet. After seeing one for the first time I immediately recognized it as CZ from the dispersion but had to test it to be sure. 2.15 RI, single refractive, about twice as dense as a similar-sized Diamond, and sporting CZ's distinctive fire to boot. I brought up the issue at the next staff meeting and the misunderstanding was corrected.
The symmetry, alignment and polish are all excellent compared to ordinary commercial CZ. Although there are some sources that produce good symmetry, the polish and angles are usually to be desired compared to the Cubic Zirconia provided by Lannyte in my experience.
Cutting helps for sure. I personally don't like the idea of doing business with a company who flimflams less knowledgable customers by not telling them what they are buying. Not to mention gems like this from their site: "Our artisans have perfected intricate cuts that would not be possible with natural or other simulated gemstones." This sort of stuff is bad for customers and the reputation of the trade imo. Just out of curiosity what brought the thread to your attention after two years of inactivity?
