Post subject: Creating star effect on natural sapphire cabochons

Has anyone heard of thai burners creating the star effect on natural sapphire cabs by sprinkling synthetic silk on the sapphire while burning, I heard this happens there.

US troops brought a lot of this stuff back from Afghanistan. Peculiar grayish-blue color, but if you look at the back toward a bright light you can see color zoning, blue and green zones of the natural cab that doesn’t show face up.
