Hi Pedro,

There will be a chat tonight (Sunday) starting at 20;30 GMT so 21;30 for us in mainland Europe.

Hope to see you there :)

I will be incommunicado over the weekend, beginning tonight. So I hope y'all have a good time at this weekend's chat without me.

A couple recent conversations made me think of a couple topics for future physics chats, and I wanted to write them down here so I don't forget.

Here's a provocative title: "Why Chelsea filter (don't) work"

And here is a boring title: "Color center electron traps"

Probably need a blackboard to discuss these two topics.

There are a number of whiteboard applications on the net that can be shared... maybe we could use one of those.

Both topics sound fine Brian though I expect the 'boring' title will prove more interesting.

Bart has a blackboard application he can load up for us (as long as he's in the chatroom)

This weeks topic is "light and colour". Brian won't be there so this will be a purely gemmological chat.

Remember that the clocks go back tonight (at least in Europe) so the chat will still be at 21:30hrs Central European time but may not be the same for other geological locations. (Pedro remember to change your clocks or you'll be 2 hours late this week instead of one :P )

Be well all...speak tomorrow :)

Frank

The blackboard is an online one, if only I could remember the link it anyone could access it anytime. I'll root out my archives and see if I can find where it's at.

*EDIT*
Ah, here we go... I had a link after all. Have a looksee at http://www.twiddla.com/77982

Both of those topics sound EXTREMELY intriguing to me Brian.
Make sure you publicly post dates and topics.

I might have to sit in on both of those Brian, and probably briefly ignore the Chelsea filter info, as I suspect that on the exams, you aren't actually allowed to argue that it doesn't really work,

Can't wait to read what was done with regards to "light and colour".

I will be in this weekend, and so if anyone is interested, we'll cover the "Chelsea filter" topic. Suggested study beforehand... it would be useful to know what wavelengths in the visible spectrum correspond to what colors.

Hi Brian,

I've just written you a reasonable lengthy reply and lost the whole thing when my computer hiccuped.

Short version now I'm afraid :)

Africanuck has sent me the log and I will edit it and send it to Barbra tomorrow. Light AND colour in a single chat was perhaps a bit over ambition  But it was a lively and Friendly chat as usual.

Look forward to the CCF chat next week :)

Be well

FranQ

With regards to afriqanuck, of course it would be helpful to know what GIA and/or FGA actually have to say about the Chelsea filter.

It's part and parcel of the standard equipment they hand out when you start the Foundation course. I'll answer that in a bit more detail later, I'm running out the door shortly...
