Several years ago, actually a decade+, an Egyptologist visited a store where I worked. We had some various lapis pieces of jewelry and entered into a discussion about the history of lapis. She said that in ancient Egypt, statesmen would hold a piece of lapis lazuli when they were giving an oratory as it was believed that if one was holding a piece of lapis, it was impossible to lie.
