You may remember that I listed this gem in the classified section a few weeks ago. Initially I had a price on it just below wholesale for a slightly silky pink, heated, Ceylon sapphire. It did not sell. I thought about sending it to a lab for a report thinking that might be a selling bonus. I did not. All this transpired at the time i was getting ready to go to Philadelphia for my interview.
I reduced the price to just a bit above my cost to move the stone. I sold it fairly quickly after that. The client, however decided to have me send the gem to AGL. It came with a Thai report but the client wanted something more substantial. I sent it out just a day before I left for Philly. This morning I talked to AGL and got the results. This pink sapphire came back as a Padparadscha...easily worth 4 to 5 times what I sold it for.
My client is obviously very happy and I'm happy for them. But I am licking my wounds. Had I not been in a rush and sent the gem to AGL myself it would have been a real bonus for me. Lesson learned. Never sell a fine gem without a report from a well respected lab.

That's the kind of stuff that drives me insane. It gnaws at me for days after. I feel your pain... and mine for not buying it when you reduced the price!

on the other hand, if you can't see enough of an orange hue to call it a padparadscha, then maybe it's a good thing it was not sold as such. Unless the picture is mistaking, I would call that a pink.

Yes, the color in the photo is off. In person it was just like this:
